The Byrd Story
Charles William Byrd was one of eight children. He was born to the late-Nancy (Martin) Byrd and the late-John Byrd on May 22, 1878 in Winnsboro, SC (a town located right outside of Columbia, SC).
Ellen (Harris) Byrd was one of 14 children (9 sisters and 4 brothers). She was born to the late-Elick and late-Bina (Ellis) Harris on December 7, 1883, also in Winnsboro, SC.
Ellen met Charles William Byrd while residing in Winnsboro, SC. They married, and from this union, twelve children were born:

It was 1923, that the Byrds' migrated to the North. Two incidents were the cause of this: 1) There were many job opportunities in the North after the Great Depression. 2) A White man owed Charles Sr. wages for labor worked, but refused to pay. Due to the hostilities held by the white man, in an era of a segregated and racist South, the family relocated North. Most went on to Baltimore, Maryland while others would go on to settle in Detroit, Michigan.
Since then our family has grown tremendously!
